Dennis Allan Lee has been active in the Alberta literary community for over twenty years. He is a member of the Writers’ Guild of Alberta, the Alexandra Writers’ Centre Society, and the Beaumont Writers’ Group. For five years he was President of the Alberta chapter of the Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators, and Performers (CANSCAIP), and he was a charter member of the Edmonton Writers’ Critiquing Group. He participated in the Surrey International Writers’ Conference for five years, and has taken part in many other conferences, workshops, and retreats. He recently won third place in the New Jersey Romance Writers’ “Put Your Heart in a Book” contest. His publication credits include Westword Magazine, Friday Flash Fiction, Paragraph Planet, and several other journals.
Dennis has just written a contemporary upmarket novel entitled This Road Goes Home, about a cantankerous drifter who inherits his estranged father’s hoarder house, and hires an exuberant Ukrainian immigrant and professional organizer to declutter it. She is trying to rebuild her life while battling PTSD and haunted by the war back home. Their unlikely partnership pushes both to confront the past—and what it means to build a future.
“I was immediately impressed with Lee’s ability to create engaging, true-to-life characters who exhibit great emotional depth and nuanced behavior. With a knack for realistic dialogue, tempered prose, and creating vivid, meaningful settings, I believe Dennis Lee is an instinctive and skilled writer. I admire his dedication to exploring important social issues, including mental health, loneliness, and such systematic issues including those facing refugees and newcomers to Canada, and unhoused populations.” –Katie Bickell, award-winning author of Always Brave, Sometimes Kind
